The Importance of Dinacharya for Holistic Wellbeing
In personal or professional endeavours, maintaining a consistent routine enhances productivity and overall wellbeing. In many ways, discipline is the cornerstone of a fulfilling and balanced life. When it comes to your health, setting intentions for prioritising your health in daily life and having the discipline to follow a routine of health conscious activities is the holistic approach to your wellbeing. Having the discipline to follow a structured routine is vital and your daily habits must consciously include activities that provide rejuvenation or relaxation for your body, mind and spirit. While it can be difficult to change unhealthy habits, with conscious intention and the correct guidance, healthy routines can be adopted easily.
A well-structured routine plays a vital role in maintaining overall wellbeing by creating a sense of stability, reducing stress, and enhancing productivity. Routines offer a sense of order in an otherwise chaotic world, helping to balance both mental and emotional states. Routines designed with intention and mindfulness, become more powerful tools for achieving holistic balance.
Dharana at Shillim, a luxury wellbeing retreat, not only provides encompassing and personalised daily routines, but with its holistic approach, this ayurvedic retreat teaches discipline and control for lasting vitality. Dharana at Shillim, named after the 6th limb of ashtanga yoga, guides you on your Journey to Conscious Being by integrating health conscious activities and mindfulness towards your health into your daily routine. The main challenge is staying disciplined after your transformative stay and continuing practising the learnings this yoga and meditation retreat provides. It can be achieved by following the first 2 limbs of Ashtanga yoga – Yama and Niyama
An ayurvedic list of ‘Do’s’ and ‘Don’ts’, the Niyamas and Yamas provide guidance on how to lead a disciplined life. These are moral codes that guide us on leading a more mindful lifestyle as Yama (or “rein”) refers to how we interact with others, while Niyama (or “duty”) focuses on self-discipline and inner integrity. Practising Yama and Niyama brings balance and order into daily life, making it easier to achieve a state of wellbeing that is sustainable.
Creating your Daily Routine at Dharana at Shillim
Dinacharya (daily routine) is a foundational practice in Ayurveda that helps provide balance. At our holistic retreat, this is enhanced through “dharana,” the practice of focused concentration. We offer a structured routine of healing and mindful learning programmes that incorporate healthy habits into your Dincharya. Through conscious changes and a structured routine, Dharana’s approach provides rejuvenation and vitality. A part of the dincharya we can all do at home is the wellbeing retreat AM/PM Rituals.
Dharana at Shillim Morning Rituals
A 30-minute practice designed to energise your body and mind for the day ahead. The morning starts with Mindful Breathing, a simple yet effective way to centre your mind and plan out the rest of your day to help reduce stress. Mindfully practising Sukhasana would be effective. This is followed by Gentle Warm-up Stretches, which awaken the body, increase circulation, and prepare you for the physical challenges of the day. These simple stretches encourage flexibility and release any residual tension. Finally, Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), a series of flowing yoga postures that build strength, stamina, and mental focus. This 15-minute practice, repeated in cycles, connects your breath with your movements, creating a meditative flow that enhances your physical vitality and emotional resilience.
Dharana at Shillim Evening Rituals
These shifts focus toward unwinding and preparing for restful sleep. This 60-minute practice begins with Mindful Reflection or Journaling, helping you review your day and express gratitude while identifying areas for personal growth. Reflection is followed by a Restorative Magnesium Bath, promoting relaxation while the minerals relieve any muscle tension accumulated throughout the day. Additionally, using calming scents or unwinding with a book enhances this restorative experience. Gentle Stretching and Guided Meditation brings calmness to the body and mind respectively, further promoting relaxation for a calm and undisturbed sleep. The practice concludes with a and a final touch of Sleep Mist—a blend of calming essential oils that fosters deep and restorative sleep.
These rituals foster physical vitality and mental clarity in the morning while encouraging relaxation, reflection, and peace in the evening.
