Stress Awareness Month: Natural Remedies for Reducing Stress and Anxiety

April is observed as the month of stress awareness since 1992 and to increase public awareness about both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic as per the Stress Management Society, UK. It has a slightly higher value this year, as almost every person on this planet is going through tough times. We should inculcate stress release activity and diet in our day-to-day routine. We must constantly search for novel creative expressions to keep our minds productive and away from negative thoughts.

We at Dharana retreat believe that the right approach to promoting the importance of stress awareness and solutions to stress and anxiety are a must. Usually, we are stuck with only two options when we are stressed out—either to fight back or give up. But as Riordan says, there is always a way out for those clever enough to find it. We lose our power of decision while we are under stress. And those who find a midway to keep their mind calm and think about the problem briefly are one of them.

Below find some natural remedies which can come to the rescue:

Practice various therapies –

It is suggested to undergo several practices at your safe place to experience inner peace.

  • Aromatherapy is one of them. Smell a certain scent that soothes your mind and keep experimenting with fresh scents.
  • Pet therapy involves fun and cheerful time with animals. It is said that interaction with animals helps to reduce the level of cortisol, a stress-related hormone in the body, and can also reduce the feeling of loneliness.
  • Deep breathing can help in reducing anxiety as even and slow breaths can calm your mind and give you enough time to focus on the core.
  • The use of essential oils is a practice that you can even inculcate in your daily night routine. Before going to sleep, you can apply essential oils directly or indirectly to keep your mind calm.

Herbs for anxiety

  • Ashwagandha affects the hormones in the body that control stress. It is majorly used for ease of sleep.
  • Chamomile tea is known to relieve stress and anxiety.
  • Lavender, a plant that belongs to the mint family, helps calm the nerves and alleviate anxiety.
  • Lemon balm, another herb from the mint family, contains lots of antioxidants and anxiety-soothing compounds.
  • Tulsi, known as the oldest herbs, the “holy basil” is renowned in the world for its healing properties.

Meditate and yoga –

The primary purpose of practicing meditation and yoga is to replace chaotic thoughts with the present-day mindset. To nourish your mind, try to take 15 minutes from your daily schedule and do various exercises that help keep your body and mind active.

Sleep schedule –

A proper balance routine along with sleep management helps reduce a lot of stress for you. It is mandatory to get the prescribed amount of sleep in a day. Avoid sleeping more.

Ditch alcohol, smoking and caffeine –

It is always healthy to avoid the consumption of alcohol and caffeine. It causes nervousness and increases the level of anxiety in your body. And eliminating it can improve the state. Don’t manage your anxiety with alcohol, but the right food intake.

Time management –

Having multiple assigned tasks can cause anxiety in many people; however, this is a subjective matter, as many people without work may also feel similar symptoms. It is necessary to use and manage your free plus occupied time wisely.
