The Magic of Shillim

Nestled in the serene Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra, Shillim is an impressive 2,500-acre sanctuary that offers a unique escape from the fast pace of modern life. Here, time slows down; nature’s beauty takes centre stage.

The Magic of Shillim

The story of Shillim is one of passion and conservation, driven by two brothers who were enchanted by the valley’s natural charm. Over a remarkable 25-year journey, they carefully acquired and restored land, witnessing the transformation from past agricultural use to a thriving ecosystem. Supported by the Shillim Institute, founded in 1999, their efforts led to the revival of over a million trees, rejuvenating the landscape.

At the core of Shillim lies Dharana, a sanctuary where luxury seamlessly blends with nature. Every effort has been made to preserve the environment here, ensuring that not a single tree was felled for construction. The result is a harmonious coexistence between human comfort and environmental preservation, offering guests breathtaking views from the comfort of their luxurious villas.

Picture waking up to the soft glow of sunlight filtering through ancient foliage, the freshest morning air carrying the earthy scents of the forest. Step onto your private balcony, where the wilderness awaits, offering a peaceful sanctuary for reflection and connection.

Shillim is more than just a destination; it embodies a philosophy that prioritises the interconnection of personal wellbeing and environmental health. This ethos is reflected in Dharana’s seasonal wellbeing programs, inspired by the ancient wisdom of Ritucharya and aligning with nature’s cyclical rhythms.

From the vibrant renewal of spring to the nurturing abundance of autumn, each season at Dharana offers tailored experiences. Guests can indulge in nutritious cuisine, yoga practices, and meditation, guided by expert consultants to harmonise with nature’s flow, all within a tranquil retreat atmosphere.

Conveniently accessible from Mumbai and Pune airports, Dharana at Shillim welcomes travellers to embark on a transformative journey. Expect not just a retreat but an immersion in nature’s embrace, one which will leave you feeling refreshed, revitalised, and in tune with the rhythm of life.

When to visit

When to visit

Shillim’s magic unfolds throughout the year. The verdant embrace of the forest constantly transforms with the seasons, offering a unique experience each time you visit.
From November to February, crisp, cool air invigorates the body and mind. As temperatures rise from March to May, the energy shifts, inviting exploration and rejuvenation. June and July may bring refreshing thunderstorms, while the monsoon season, typically arriving in late June and lasting until September, paints the landscape in its most vibrant hues.
While July and August might be the wettest months, for many of us, they hold a special charm. The torrential downpours nourish the earth, transforming Shillim into a breathtaking tapestry of lush greens. This introspective time is ideal for inward journeys, making it particularly well-suited for transformative programmes like Panchakarma, traditionally believed to be more effective during the monsoon.

When to visit the Magic of Shillim

Dharana at Shillim would be one of the foremost wellbeing destinations in the world providing an exemplary sanctuary to the body, mind and soul. A wellbeing destination from where, after spending a few days or weeks a guest would return re-energized to their everyday lives. Wellbeing programmes would combine with art studios, leisure riding would combine with a cooking school, and organic farming would complement deep meditation practices – to create experiences all in tune with the wilderness setting. Conserving the earth would resonate with conserving health.

Shillim now had developed a purpose beyond conservation. Today, the Shillim Institute along with Dharana at Shillim continue to conserve the Shillim Valley, guided by a formal mission – “To generate ideas and facilitate positive action in the areas of conservation, sustainability and healing, beginning with the Shillim Valley and extending to other like minded projects around the world.”
